Field Notes Through a Lens

Photography has long been one of the ways I explore and document the world around me. These images reflect a long-standing curiosity about landscapes, historic places, coastlines, and moments collected across years in the field, while traveling, and through everyday observation. Although not part of my formal scientific research, they reflect the same desire to understand places, how they change, and the stories they hold.

Long before I pursued geology, photography shaped the way I looked at landscapes. While I was living in Hawaiʻi, my work was featured in local media and commissioned by nonprofit organizations and commercial clients. That passion eventually led me to design and build custom aerial camera platforms years before unmanned aircraft became common tools in environmental research. Today, those experiences continue to shape my work in GIS, remote sensing, historical aerial imagery, and the communication of landscape change.
